Dr. Jose Zayas is a pediatrician and healthcare leader with more than 20 years of experience spanning clinical care, medical education, operations, patient safety, quality improvement, and technology integration. As Pediatric Residency Program Director at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, he led the early integration of clinical research, patient safety, and quality improvement, served on health system executive teams including the Medical Executive Committee, and was appointed by City Council to the Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida. He later served as a Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) Team Lead at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), visiting more than 200 institutions and advising healthcare executives on how to align patient safety, workforce well-being, and professionalism to improve outcomes.

Jose has authored three book chapters in Rudolph’s Pediatrics, contributed to 23 ACGME publications, and is known for turning emerging technology into practical, scalable solutions for clinicians. He brings that combination of pediatric expertise and systems thinking to First Ascent, helping ensure that new approaches to cancer care reach physicians and children in ways that work in real clinical settings.
